Throughout our lives, we meet amazing people and witness surprising events. Some of them stay with us for good while others fall into oblivion soon after. Technology now makes it possible to immortalize the people and circumstances that made an impression or stirred an emotion at one time in our existence. This assignment is about some of the people you encounter by chance, may never meet again but wish to remember forever. It is about street portraits. The myriad-faceted streetThe street is the perfect, the best place to see and capture people. You won't find a more authentic, true-to-life photo setting than this. It's the place where you see human interaction and loneliness, happiness and misery, pretense and honesty, old and new, past and present, multi-generations and multiculturalism, all fusing into an endless myriad of possible street portraits. Your fashionista neighbor going for another bold look this morning, the delivery guy going about his daily job, the street vendors at work, the thoughtful stranger sipping his coffee, the homeless violinist in the corner, the hectic mass heading for the subway entrance, the elderly women chitchatting at the corner, the casual people at the flea markets, the two friends having a casual lunch break on a park bench, these are all examples of good street portraits. If you can't find your street motivating enough, random street gatherings, a local festival you stumble upon or even a courtyard sales are also great opportunities to take candid shots for this assignment. Take the challenge Now is your chance to really notice the people and show us what makes them interesting, different, unique, bold, unusual, beautiful. We're looking to see real people and also get a glimpse into their story. With your portraits, we expect you to challenge stereotypes of beauty, gender, body types, body shapes and show us what makes each individual beautiful and unique. Or what you found amazing in a person so as to take their shot. It may be the freckles, the wrinkles, the sad smile, the stunning eyes, the frown, the clothes, the posture, the huge eyeglasses on the tiny face, the determination, the composure, the walk, the angry face, the lost look, anything that makes the portrait impressive. We're also expecting to see plenty of diversity or race, age, gender, religion, you name it. The street is the place where you can find them all. Ask for permission, get releases where possible and let's celebrate our diversity. Authenticity and beyondSo we're really looking for candid, casual portraits that tell a story, taken in the most authentic setting possible, the street. Whether you'll focus on one person or on the street dynamics, it's up to you, as long we see real-life shots with real life people we can relate to. But think authenticity beyond candor or atmosphere and also show us uniqueness or group belonging: traditional costumes or tattoos for instance. Think of ethnic differences translated into fashion styles and how people adopt these to make a statement about who they are. Think of generation gaps seen in the street fashion style, millennial vs baby boomers. Maybe they dress exactly the same, maybe they dress differently. Think of the unconventional in anything: beauty, fashion, hairstyle, filters, angles. Remember that the Instagram filter is in demand for street portraits. Also, think outside of the city as there's much authenticity to be found on the village as well. Illustrators are also welcome to show us how they see street authenticity and authentic people on the street. Both Royalty Free and Editorial files are welcome for this assignment, just mark them as "assignment files" at upload.1. upload the image via FTP or via upload page. The image is now in your unfinished files, please do not edit the image from the unfinished files folder at all, instead go to the next step.2. go to assignment page, choose escalate to level 5 or sell the rights option and hit submit.3. choose the file you will be submitting to the assignment from the row of already uploaded images under the assignment text.4. continue upload as usual.Get out and walk the streets, amazing people are waiting to be seen through your lens and pens.
