...you really can't go wrong acknowledging and accommodating the cost conscious part of the market. Look at Walmart :)I have 70 photos up over at inertia - all free. Nearly all were DT rejects. I've got 56,000+ downloads on those 70 (that's 800DPI). Of course the demand curve for those photos is likely well above free. If those photos were a nickel a download I would likely have the same number of downloads. You've got to rethink this segment of downloaders as a completely different market. There's plenty like me on the cheap. posted in When did (did they really?) subscription plans change?
I don't care so much about earnings. I don't put much effort into it and I've gotten a good show for the little I've done. That weekly subscription was perfect for me and my design biz especially as things have gotten tighter. My biz is constantly feast or famine. So one week I may need a ton of photos and nothing for the next three. And to me the data seems to say that the weekly sub was also when I was earning the most as a seller. I could be wrong but - it would be interesting to know if there is a correlation and I'm sure the database gurus here running DT will be able to look at that if they haven't already. The subscription options though are definitely leaner than they were even before the weekly was made available. I'm trying to understand the logic of why some and DT admins wouldn't want a weekly - I paid slightly more per download anyway than I would have with the monthly I would assume. So from that standpoint DT would make more $ for themselves. As a photographer I like subscription buys because they pump up your image level so you can cash in on those that don't care what they are paying. Also, I never look at subscription buys as a lousy commission BECAUSE as a BUYER I know I typically need fewer photos than my quota allots me. With those extra credits left over I get in my 'To Buy' lightbox and buy up photos I may find a use for but would never purchase otherwise. posted in When did (did they really?) subscription plans change?
